Will God Heal Me Today?
Do you know how many Bible verses talk about healing? You might say a few or more than a few. You might think of the ones in the Gospels where Jesus healed the sick. Are you ready for this? In both the Old and New Testaments, there are over 100 verses that mention the words heal, healing, or healed.
It is a thread that we see from the beginning. Exodus 15:26 says, “I AM the God who heals you. The Hebrew word for Healer is Rapha. He is Jehovah Rapha. He was, He is, He always will be our Healer - the word means Doctor, the one Who heals. In Exodus 12:37, as the Israelites left Egypt, there was none feeble or sick among them. That is an amazing statement and fact because thousands of men, women, and children left Egypt under Moses’ leadership.
Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years before Jesus in Isaiah 53:5 -"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." In Psalm 103:3, "Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases"
Recently, I have read through the book of Matthew and documented all the verses about healing. In the first 21 chapters, nearly half of the context revolves around Jesus healing people. Just in case you don’t know this or may not believe me, let me give you some examples:
Chapter 4:23 - When Jesus comes out of the wilderness, He begins to choose His disciples and begins healing.
Chapter 8 - He heals a leper, a paralyzed servant, Peter’s mother-in-law, those demon-possessed, and all who were sick
Chapter 9 - A paralytic, the woman with the issue of blood, two blind men, one mute and demon-possessed, healing all those who were sick and diseased.
Chapter 10 - He gave His disciples the authority to do the same thing and sent them out into the surrounding cities.
Chapter 27 - In Jesus’ death on the cross, He healed. Graves were opened and many bodies of the saints were raised, once dead, now alive!
Let’s remember that He is God in the flesh (Colossians 2:9). The same God who declared to the Israelites I am the God who heals you. It has always been God’s desire for people to live in health, but to get there, many of us need to be healed first.
Where do doctors come into this scenario? Thank God for doctors whom God gives wisdom, knowledge, and instruction to bring healing to people today. As Christians, we have a heavenly Doctor and His Holy Spirit who will not only heal us, but lead us to earthly doctors. That might seem like an oxymoron, but let me give you a personal example.
Years ago, cancer came into my body. By the time I was diagnosed, it was serious, and the doctor wanted to operate. I fasted and prayed for a few days, talking with my Doctor God about the situation, asking Him what He wanted me to do. Besides, my body is His temple. He lives in me, and this foreign sickness could not stay; it had to go. What do you want me to do, Father God?
Clearly, I heard Him say in my spirit, ‘Have the surgery.’ So, I did. What the doctor and others witnessed was nothing short of a miracle, both during and after the surgery. That was 15 years ago. God still heals today, and he will use whatever means He deems. The most important part you and I play in this is to listen, trust, and obey. There really is no other way.
If you or someone you know is battling sickness, do as the doctor says to do with your medicine: take it after meals. Take God’s Word, read the Bible, and watch God bring healing to your body and soul as you take Him as your medicine.
Leave me a comment. Send us prayer requests. Share a Scripture with us. We would love to hear from you.
Until next time, remember, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.
