The Door is Closed!

What phrase would you say as 2025 comes to a close? Maybe you would say, “What a year!” Or, “I am so glad this year is almost over!” How about, “What a great year!” I believe we could all say, if we choose to, “Thank you, Father God, for Who you are, for getting me through, for giving me what I need, for loving me through my stuff, and for forgiving me when I failed and helping me back up. For giving us Your Son, Jesus, to show us who You are and how much You love us.

Many, if not all of us, remember the beginning of this decade as the year from hell, as Covid 19 descended on the earth - a curse that affected almost every family on the earth. Family members lost, friends lost, jobs lost, much loss, but God.

As the years passed, we are now halfway through this decade, and I sense the tide is turning. A door is closing, and as a new door slowly opens on the horizon, the Lord continues to vie for our attention and our affection. What are you hearing the Lord say?

One thing He said to me as this year closes is “Fixed for 2026!” Not fixed in 2026, but fixed for 2026. It is time to walk more in God’s ways. It is time to run the race He has called us to. This requires laying aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares us. We can’t run with endurance when we are encumbered! (Hebrews 12:1-2).

As we run, we must keep our eyes on the prize and know that Jesus is running with us, ahead of us, to lead us to the Father and to the calling by faith He paid the price for, and you were born for.

Let me encourage you if you have any regrets, any shame, any unholy soul ties, to lay it all aside, ask for forgiveness, know you are forgiven, and hold your head high going into 2026 - knowing the great Fixer paid the price for you to be ‘fixed for 2026’ (Galatians 5).

If you have any ‘fences to mend’, don’t wait. Call them. Apologize. Make it right. I know that sounds easier said than done, but to borrow a phrase from corporate America, ‘just do it.’ The Bible tells us over and over (the concept is stated over 80 times) to humble ourselves. God does not do the humbling. We do. He may cause a course of events, which are recorded in the Bible, for mankind to humble themselves, but we have that choice. Make that choice going into 2026, friend.

  • James 4:10: "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you".

  • 1 Peter 5:6: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you".

  • 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven..."

  • Matthew 23:12: "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted" (a principle Jesus taught).

Humility is a decision that causes a position. That position is usually uncomfortable, which is why we avoid it. But if we could realize that when we humble ourselves, we open the door for the Holy Spirit to make things right.

As the door of 2025 closes, let’s heed Father God’s words and enter 2026 fixed by His hand and in a position to receive all He has for us! That may mean on our knees.
